Heart of this Home

Project Summary: Heart of this Home

The final design included removal of an existing countertop peninsula, angled knee wall, and raised bar top. that were enclosing the space and creating a divide between the Kitchen and Family Room. Once these were removed, this new open concept allowed for a more functional flow and the opportunity to include the two islands the Owner had dreamed of.  The pantry closet was also removed, and replaced by oversized pantry cabinetry which allows for better access and organization.

The clean, modern finishes allow the space to feel even more open, while also providing durable and functional materials. Black stained cabinetry was installed just shy of the 10’ ceiling height throughout, creating a dramatic and eye-catching backdrop. The new cabinetry includes plenty of pantry space, and deep drawers that provide easy access to pots, pans, and small appliances. The double islands allow for plenty of workspace and a great place to gather with friends and family!

The Challenge

Creative Contracting was challenged to completely rethink and redesign this Lebanon Kitchen. The existing space was small, only functional for one person to use at a time and outdated. The Homeowner enjoys cooking and wanted their “dream” kitchen. They requested an open-concept, easy-flowing kitchen that would allow for a dozen people to be baking/cooking in the space, and a concept with double islands was top of this Homeowner’s wish list.

The original design concept included two large islands, additional storage, upgraded appliances, and more counter space without adding any additional square footage. The existing kitchen had a small pantry that did not allow for organized storage. The Homeowner had multiple pantry items and they required concealed storage while remaining easily accessible.

Material Selection

New Venetian Quartz was selected as a sleek contrast to the Mink cabinetry and the waterfall edges on both islands create a showstopping vision. The 12”x24” Alustra Majestic White Lasa floor tile was chosen to provide additional contrast and durability. The tile was installed on a 45-degree angle, to follow the transition between the existing Family Room hardwood.  A 54” wide custom drywall wrapped hood built on-site by our skilled craftsman, placed above a Wolf range adds even more drama and beauty to the kitchen. A dark blue glass tile mosaic by Trysta Belle was selected to provide a pop of color! Modern LED chandeliers were hung over each island, suspended by stainless cords, which gives the illusion they are floating. This previously tight, traditional kitchen is now transformed into a bright, spacious, and beautiful gathering space! Truly becoming the Heart of this Home.
