Fun Meets Functional… 95 years later!

Project Summary: Fun Meets Functional… 95 years later!

A 95 year old home located in Mt. Lookout with the charm and challenges one would expect of a house of that age. Creative was hired to remodel an unfinished lower level, turn it into a warm and inviting environment for the kids and adults to enjoy, create functional spaces for storage and laundry needs, increase size of the garage parking, and renovate an existing Sunroom into a bright and inviting work area.

The Challenge

A central staircase, uneven concrete floors, low ceilings, boiler systems, asbestos, and 95-year-old framing all proposed unique challenges for this renovation. Each challenge was resolved with innovative thinking, creative ideas, and clear communication of the homeowner’s vision.

Special Selection & Materials

Mannington (Dockside Driftwood) Luxury Vinyl Flooring was selected for a durable material to allow the kids to come in dirty from practice and the dog to run around freely without worry from Mom. This warm hue created an inviting backdrop to a light toned wall color (SW Repose Gray) and other neutral selections to allow the space to feel spacious and bright.

An under the stairs hideaway for the dog was a fun concept the homeowner brought to us, which provides their dog a place to feel safe and cozy.

A custom-built storage closet and drawers was built on the opposite side under the stairs. This space provides concealed storage for the kids school and sports gear, while not impeding the flow of the hallway.

A track door was installed to hide the water heater while still providing access if needed.

A custom mixed stain was used on the original wood and millwork in the study. This rich tone provides balance to the original Blue Stone flooring that was  restored as part of this renovation. A portion of an existing tumbled stone wall  was removed and full-light French Doors were installed, leading to the front porch. The natural light and open-air concept is top of the homeowners list of things she loves about this space! All these details provide an inspired work from home environment for our owner.
