Modern Oasis with Cozy Touches

Our Homeowners came to Creative Contracting, having already finalized construction drawings with their architect, Chuck Chambers of Chamber Architecture in Dayton, Ohio. Our team was very excited at the opportunity to blend his  unique building style with our clients dreams. This proved to be a great partnership, and we are already under construction with another Chambers Architecture design.

The Homeowners personal aesthetic leans a bit more modern, while the exterior redbrick façade of their home reads more traditional. Blending the two into a cohesive and pleasing final product was a fun and exciting challenge for everyone.

Sourcing matching materials for the existing brick home proved to be a bit of a challenge, however not one that we couldn’t overcome through diligent efforts by our brick mason and selections coordinator. By utilizing several of our local preferred masonry vendors, the perfect choice was found!

Exterior:

While this homes façade is a traditional redbrick, the Homeowners hoped to sway the style of this project a bit more to the modern side. We wanted to lighten the palate and provide contrast to the existing red tones. This was achieved by selecting Timbertech Azek French White Oak decking, a custom stained-to-match 6” V Groove ceiling, and complimenting Naturkast outdoor cabinetry in Weathered Dockside with Stainless Steel trim. The trim coordinated perfectly with their 28” Coyote gas grill, warming drawer, and beverage fridge, As well as the stainless cable system railing that was chosen to descend each side of the wide staircase that connects the raised composite deck to the lower Adobe Buff concrete patio.

Opposite of the grilling station, is a large stone fireplace with a 48” Lanai outdoor gas fireplace insert surrounded by Stonecraft Chardonnay Ledgestone in a drystack application. The colors in this stone were the perfect way to blend the soft beige tones of our new selections with the existing redbrick.

In an effort to make the space comfortable for all season use, (2) Schwank flush mount electric heaters were installed within the ceiling, as well as (2) 62” MinkaAire roto XL ceiling fans in Oil Rubbed Bronze. Accent and Task lighting was placed throughout the space, by way of typical wafer ceiling lights, stair riser lights, and new coach lighting.

The space came together beautifully, providing additional square footage for the whole family to use and enjoy during exciting game days, delicious cook-outs, and relaxation in the hot tub.

Modifying the existing traditional fireplace surround, built-in cabinetry, and bookshelves was the final request for this project’s scope. We selected a new gas insert and chose a sleek cast stone surround and hearth to further modernize the space. New cabinetry was installed at 42” tall, to provide more storage and better scale for the 9’ ceiling height. (3) Floating glass shelves were added over each cabinet, with LED tape lighting installed to provide even lighting across all the shelves. Finished with Amazing Gray paint color by Sherwin Williams and Art Deco style knobs from Signature Hardware. One wall of changes made a big and beautiful difference in this space!
