Log Cabin Creativity

Project Summary: Log Cabin Creativity

Working on a log cabin is not something we get to do everyday! Our entire team enjoyed the process of ensuring we were capturing the character and charm of the existing conditions while bringing new elements into the space.

The homeowners requested that their existing wood flooring remain, and we were able to achieve this even when adjusting the layout of the existing island by utilizing extra flooring materials the homeowners had stored away (always a good idea to keep extra materials!).

The Challenge

The homeowners wanted a more functional kitchen that offered more space for multi-person use and better storage capacity. They also requested a double oven. The size of the Kitchen was not changing, so working within the existing space (13’ x 11’) to provide the Homeowners with more space was the real challenge.

Another unique element about this project is the home is a log cabin. This proved to be an exciting and enjoyable opportunity when selecting materials to complement the existing character and warmth of the home yet modernize the functionality.

Project Materials & Specialty Items

Beautiful custom cabinetry in Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog was chosen, and was an incredible  contrast to the rich, warm wood tones in the home. The island countertop is a custom stained butcher block to match the existing wood. The perimeter countertop is Red Fusion Quartzite- a true showstopper that looks like it was made for this home! The backsplash consists of 4”x4” tumbled Sierra Limestone field tile of and a 2.5”x10” Grand Canyon in Sage Brush as the accent tile above the range. These choices offered additional rustic texture to offer the same character of the home, while brightening the space.

Distressed copper hardware from RK International was chosen for the cabinetry knobs and pulls, to bring out the copper tones within the Quartzite countertop. The homeowners requested to save and re-install their existing kitchen faucet, however we did provide a new Blanco composite sink in Metallic Gray- a large, stain and scratch resistant material that our homeowners love! The ceiling within the kitchen space received a 6” V Groove material, that we chose to paint in Sherwin Williams Dover White to help define the new kitchen space and pull some additional lightness. The blend of rustic charm and modern amenities have provided our homeowners with a timeless and beautiful kitchen.
