Previously completing a lower-level remodel with us in 2020 (we love our repeat clients!), the homeowners returned for a kitchen remodel. After determining that this is their forever home, they wished to create their dream kitchen which included a 43” La Cornue range, we were off to the races! The range was chosen in a dusty blue color of ‘Winter Sky’, and set the tone for the elevated and elegant aesthetic throughout. With such a statement piece already chosen, we knew we had to make what was placed above the range equally as interesting. A custom Metal Craft 50” hood was designed in a Brushed Stainless finish, complete with Antique Brass strapping, rivets, crown moulding, and a pot rack detail.
It is simply stunning and the perfect compliment to the range below. Inset cabinetry was selected for a clean yet modern look, in the paint color of Soft White on Maple on the perimeter and a stain of Dusty Road on Alder for the island. Panel-Ready appliances were selected to conceal all possible appliances and maintain the statements at the cooking station. Brandenburg Quartz was chosen for the functional and practical countertops for this young family with 2 young kids. This selection joins both warm and cool tones to create a subtle interest without being too overpowering. This selection was also chosen as the backsplash throughout the kitchen, known as a full-height splash. This brings additional continuity to the design, as well as ease of cleaning when grout lines are eliminated from the usual tile application. We removed the existing flooring throughout the first floor, and installed new 7.5” wide pre-finished hardwood by Mannington Latitude Park City in Olympic for a classically warm tone to enhance the cabinetry selections and coordinate with their existing furnishing. The pre-finished flooring is durable, the matte finish is forgiving, and the wider plank size is perfectly on trend and great for scale in this open concept home. Once the main elements were finalized, it was time to add additional elegance to the space, by way of plumbing and lighting fixtures.
A Kohler Artifacts Touchless faucet in Vibrant Moderne Brass was the perfect choice to further enhance the elegant feel of the range and hood nearby. A beautiful Kohler Whitehaven enameled cast iron apron front sink with a low divide provides the person on dish duty ample space for clean-up. 2 Savoy House Denmar 18” pendants in a warm brass finish with crackle water glass were installed above the island to provide additional task lighting and another focal point to bring your eyes up to the beautiful fixtures and beyond (to the hood!). Emtek Selected two-toned cabinetry hardware was placed on the doors and drawers to further pull out the stainless and brass finishes on both the range and hood. The oversized hardware is highly functional and creates quite a statement on their own. The paint color of Collingwood by Benjamin Moore was the perfect soft grey tone to pull throughout the first floor, which carries us to the dry bar, stairs, and fireplace surround.
The Dry Bar is located just off the kitchen and is the perfect staging area for a beverage center and serving station for this homeowner who loves to host. Once an empty space, we installed painted upper and lower cabinetry for functional storage in the color Outerspace (a color very similar to the range!). Accented by stained floating shelves in the Dusty Road finish to match the nearby island, this space is the perfect accent to the kitchen. A glass-front beverage fridge was installed for the perfectly chilled glass of wine. The Brandenburg Quartz selection from the kitchen was carried into this space to bring a sense of continuity. Then, a beautiful tile backsplash was chosen to give this space its own subtle identity. The selection came from Soho in Avant Triangle Asian Statuary and Wooden Beige- a patterned yet soft design that pulls the colors of the counters. The same cabinet hardware and wall color was carried into this space.
Since replacing the flooring throughout the first floor, the stair treads and existing handrails, newels, and balusters also needed updating to match the new selection. New stair treads were installed and site-finished to match the stain of the hardwood, as well as the handrails and newel caps. The newel bases were painted white to match the trim, to provide contrast and keep the area bright. Black metal balusters with a subtle pattern were installed for a more modern feel.
A last-minute request to give the fireplace surround a mini-makeover was the final touch to the main living area. By removing the previous mosaic tile surround, and installing the Brandenburg Quartz around the existing fireplace insert and mantle, as well as creating a new floor-level hearth, was the perfect choice to make this item coordinate with all the new finishes nearby.
A mudroom remodel was the last room in this project’s scope. High functioning storage was designed and placed within this space in a beautiful and rich paint color, Gale Force. A bench top stained to match the island in Dusty Road was installed for contrast and continuity. Easy access drawers installed below the bench, outlets placed within the tall cabinetry for vacuum storage, and a clothes rod for hanging coats are all examples of ways we tailored this cabinetry to fit this families needs. Beyond the cabinetry, the homeowners were not afraid to be bold and we chose to color drench this room. We color matched the cabinetry and painted the walls, doors, and trim in Gale Force. We also swapped all electrical components to a matching navy tone. We absolutely love the personality this space has!
This home has a new feel of effortless elegance mixed with high functioning and durable materials. We hope this family enjoys their remodeled spaces and is the backdrop to many wonderful memories.
