Project Summary: Classically Chic Kitchen
A pull and replace Kitchen remodel that maintained the existing walls and layout, first floor flooring throughout, and new stair handrails, balusters, and newels.
The Challenge: without moving walls or adding space, the homeowners desired a kitchen update that gave them more storage, functional cooking and entertaining space, and an overall updated look and feel.
Special selections / materials / techniques used:
Our homeowners requested a durable, timeless, and classic approach when selecting their materials, but certainly did not want that to mean boring or quickly dated. Our first selection was the cabinetry, which set the tone for a soft and warm aesthetic throughout. The perimeter cabinetry is a painted Maple in Agreeable Grey and the island was done in Poplar in a Timber stain. The mix of paint and stain brings interest and texture to the space. Brandenburg Quartz was selected for the countertop, which brought subtle movement and both warm and cool tones to compliment both cabinetry colors- as well as gives our homeowners peace of mind for a low-maintenance product that will look great for years!
A smart touch faucet by Brizo was installed in a stainless finish to coordinate with the homeowner’s new appliances, and a fan-favorite Blanco composite sink in Truffle was selected, which looks like it was made to be placed within these Quartz counters. The Blanco composite material also offers a low maintenance, scratch free, and heat-resistant alternative to a stainless sink. This home already had several areas of white oak throughout the first floor, mixed with carpet. Our scope included removing the existing carpet, installing new white oak flooring to tie into the existing, and sanding and staining the entire floor with a new, updated color- and Jacobean was the perfect choice!
It has a soft, rich tone which was a beautiful backdrop to the new selections and existing furnishings. The color is just dark enough without being overpowering. Wanting a soft backdrop to the rich flooring, Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore was chosen for the wall color- a classic paint choice that offers a subtle gray pigment. Our homeowners were not afraid to have a little fun when the time came to select their tile backsplash.
While staying in a neutral palette they selected a fluted 6×12 subway tile by Soho that brought more texture and a high-design feel to the space. Accented by an arabesque shaped, dark grey Medici & Co. tile above the cooktop and at the coffee bar to provide contrast among the other tile and continuity to the dark toned Hinkley pendants and kitchen table lighting fixture, chosen in black finishes to accent the stainless metals elsewhere. The final choice of Amerock cabinet hardware in matte black put the finishing touches on the space, tying each thoughtful decision together to create a classically chic kitchen to be loved and enjoyed for many years to come!
Finally, since updating the hardwood floors throughout, the pre-existing stair handrails, newels, and balusters were no longer a match to our new stain selection. We selected new wood newels and handrail profiles and had them stained to match the flooring. Black metal balusters with a subtle pattern were chosen to modernize the space and create a more open and inviting entryway.
Once we decided on a kitchen, flooring, and stair rail renovation, we knew we needed professional support. We are glad that we found the Creative Contracting Team. Debi was helpful to us in the design of our new kitchen and opening up options that we had never considered. Once the design was completed, materials, appliances and fixtures were selected with the help of Lauren. Lauren provided assurances to us regarding coordination of our selections. She took the time to understand what we wanted in our new kitchen. Once the work began, Joe and his team managed and coordinated all of the subcontractors, the carpentry work and the timing of the project. The communication and follow up was excellent throughout the entire project. We love our new, modern kitchen. It is brighter, more spacious and functional for us. Our new flooring is beautiful and the stair rail offers a surprising, contemporary esthetic to our home. Thanks to the entire Creative Contracting Team for support throughout the entire project.
